It’s Always Hilly in Philadelphia

In the early 1920s, a group of Philadelphia Quakers set out to build a golf-only haven where the game took priority above all else. No tennis. No swimming. Just golf. William Flynn delivered in 1926 with a routing that Gil Hanse ranks in the top three in golf-rich Philadelphia. Flynn’s greens are some of the toughest you’ll ever see—so tough that when Tom Coyne hosted his book launch here, a room full of golf writers left humbled and dubbed it the “A Course Called America massacre.” Gil Hanse has been carefully restoring Flynn’s vision for years, and this June marks our first visit to one of Philly’s fiercest tests. This time, we’ll leave TC out of the course setup.
