Essex County

Shipping Up

As you navigate the tempestuous terrain and confounding Donald Ross green complexes at Essex, don’t forget that even though you can’t see it, the wild North Atlantic lies less than a mile to the east. Granite outcroppings mingle with sandy soils and ocean-feeding brooks to produce a ruggedly beautiful setting, and since Ross lived on property for his seven years as head pro, you can be sure he charted every inch of the place. This fall, you’re invited as we make a third trip to this North Shore haven less than an hour from Boston, where great shots are rewarded, poor shots are sunk, and the view from atop the 18th tee box rivals any scout’s perch on a schooner of yore.
