Million Dollar Fairway

Inside The Bridge Car Show, where priceless rides and golf collide
The Bridge

A typical day at The Bridge in Bridgehampton, New York, might see 30 rounds played. Fifty, if it’s packed. But on a crisp September morning this fall, more than 3,000 people gathered in the fairways of this exclusive Hamptons hideaway. And not one shot would be struck—a broken window might rack up a higher charge than the host venue’s rumored initiation fee. Welcome to the The Bridge Car Show.

Vanity Fair called it “The Hamptons’ most exclusive lawn party.” Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been on the guest list. But to Bob Rubin, owner of The Bridge, it’s nothing more than a nod to the land’s past, and an investment in its future. Until 1999, The Bridge was a racetrack. Ferraris could be heard screaming over the finish line that now serves as the club’s front entrance. When the liability of high-speed crashes got too big to ignore, Rubin picked up golf, then picked up the phone to ask Rees Jones to build him a course.

In an effort to honor the site’s sporting heritage, Rubin and his partners Jeffery Einhorn and Shamin Abas organized the car show seven years ago. It’s grown quickly, with 2022’s version sporting 350 models ranging from artist Daniel Arsham’s resurrected 356 Bonsai Porsche to paddock-ready race kits. And if you’re not into cars, you should know that proceeds from the gala (roughly $300,000 this year) go toward’s The Bridge Golf Foundation—a sports-based youth development organization in Harlem that Rubin founded seven years ago.
