Lac La Belle

Back to the Belle

In 1900, a big purse and a course that had the Midwest talking lured four of the next seven U.S. Open champions to the shores of a Wisconsin lake for the Oconomowoc Open Championship. The event generated headlines, but the golf world moved on and the course eventually fell into disrepair. In 2020, Tyler and Matt Morse gave Lac La Belle a revival worth traveling back for: massive tiered greens, native fescue, double fairways and Scottish bunkering that calls to mind nearby Sand Valley and Lawsonia Links. This summer, 100 members will take on 18 holes at one of Wisconsin’s most fun new builds, then follow the punchbowl 18th straight onto the newly opened short course, Uncle Henry’s Backyard. Lac La Belle’s house-brewed lager and BTS fellowship will handle the rest.
