The Lost Course

“By 2 a.m., we had a game plan…We would work out the small details—transportation, food, lodging and whether the golf course still existed and was open for business—when we got there.”

— From “What Lies Beneath the Machair,” by DJ Piehowskie TGJ No.1

Askernish seems too good to be true—a forgotten Old Tom Morris design at the edge of the world, essentially preserved in its initial layout. The team at Skratch’s “Adventures in Golf” heard that and simply had to go find out for themselves.

Our own Contributing Editor D.J. Piehowski was a producer on the trip, and it was every bit of an adventure to even make the trip happen. He provides the wild, behind-the-scenes detail in a rollicking piece in Issue 1 of The Golfer’s Journal. The video above is what transpired on a golf trip for the ages.
