GEARHART GOLF LINKS

In 1891, a group of golf-starved Scots stumbled upon an undeveloped strip of Oregon coastline. Much to their delight, the terrain resembled their beloved St. Andrews. With nary a golf course west of the Mississippi at the time, they decided to cut holes into the sides of dunes and, with the swing of a stick, forever planted their flag in the Pacific Northwest. Some 130 years later, Gearhart Golf Links continues to thrive. What's more, it’s inspired a series of stunning golf sites along the same strip of land.

Astoria Golf & Country Club

Golf can only be played in two directions at Astoria Golf & CC: north and south. You may hear the crash of the Pacific to the west—perhaps you’ll even catch a glimpse of it over the towering dunes that run parallel—but rest assured, you don’t need to be Lewis & Clarke to find your way around. It’s a local secret that packs breathtaking visuals and a full shot-makers menu into each loop. Best to enjoy this trip: Securing an invite from the private membership is tough.

HIGHLANDS GOLF CLUB

Who doesn't love a change of pace? Gearhart happens to have a killer one right next door. The Highlands rivals any short course on the coast—yeah we said it, Preserve fans—and remains in pristine condition year-round despite its popularity. It’s ideal for an early morning tune-up or late-afternoon cool down. Just don't forget your skins money...

Getting There

A flight into Portland International Airport (PDX) followed by a 1 Hour 40 Minute car ride is the most efficient route into Gearhart. Flights into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) with a 3 ½ hour drive is the next closest metropolitan area airport. Those driving from the south will want to take I-5 North until Route 26 and head West towards Gearhart, while those traveling from the north will want to take I-5 South until Route 30 and head West towards Gearhart.
