Bump&Run: 4/25/22

While some lucky members of the Broken Tee Society take over Prairie Dunes, the rest of us will make do with this week’s newsletter. Dive in for a variety of online and IRL BTS meetups, plus a few posts you may have missed from last week.

Bump&Run is the weekly recap of our members-only Discord server. Haven’t joined our server yet? Do so here: glfrsj.nl/BTSconnect

home on the prairie

A slight departure from our regularly scheduled “weekly recap” content, as it’s not every day that we’re receiving live TGJ event updates from a Top 100 course.

Foster in his natural environment

The Showcase @ Prairie Dunes is going down today, and early reports indicate a perfect weather day and the opportunity of a lifetime for 100 lucky Broken Tee Society members. Head to our Prairie Dunes channel on Discord to keep up with all the action.

calling all members

As you may have seen in our Swing Thoughts newsletter, we’re gathering the BTS together for another quarterly Town Hall next Wednesday.

In addition to shouting out some success stories and laying out a few goals, we’re looking to hear from you directly on ways you’d like to see the BTS improve.

Plus, we’ve got a few announcements that you won’t want to miss.

RSVP here, or head to the ‘Events’ tab at the top left of the server.

sunday, bloody sunday

Perhaps a morbid section title, but such is life when discussing Cormac McCarthy’s seminal Western epic Blood MeridianMembers of our Book Club gathered last night to do just that, and agreed that the beauty inherent in McCarthy’s writing style and descriptions of the American Southwest could not entirely offset the visceral horror of the subject matter. Truly a book that sticks with the reader long after the final, haunting scene.

On a lighter Book Club note, we’ve received great news: Alan Shipnuck will join us in July to discuss his forthcoming Phil Mickelson biography! Between then and now, we’ll dive into a book on St. Andrews in preparation for this summer’s Open Championship.

RSVP for Alan’s chat here, and head to the Book Club channel to nominate a St. Andrews title.

jeffersonville in July

Philly is coming out of the gates strong to start this golf season – locking down 32 tee times at the beloved Jeffersonville Golf Club outside of town for the morning of Saturday, July 30th

Major shout out to Sam (@BirdiesNoBogeys) and Jake (@JBorer) for teaming up to secure these spots. We are huge fans of Jeffersonville and can’t think of a better place for the BTS to gather in the Philadelphia area.

The sign-up sheet exists in the #BTS-Philly channel here – you can also hit the pin at the top of the channel to navigate directly there.

A rainy day at Jeffersonville in 2020 means we’re due for blue skies this time around.

playing across the pnw

Not to be outdone, the Pacific Northwest region is putting together a PNW Ladder Challenge!

This ingenious way to connect and compete with members spread across the PNW will run all season, but sign ups close April 30th, so don’t delay. Sign up is available in the pinned posts section at the top of the PNW channel.

For questions on this or anything PNW, DM @CodyDPDX

ANOTHER ONE

Our man in the TGJ van is at it again! Foster has worked with the team at Wisconsin’s Lac La Belle to secure a two-day, one-night showstopper of an event on July 10th and 11th.

Introducing The Outing @ Lac La Belle …

Lac La Belle

Lac La Belle

Twilight, glow golf, and an 18-hole tournament make this a highlight to plan your summer around. SIGN UP GOES LIVE WEDNESDAY AT NOON ET.

punch shots

The best (and worst) from the week that was.

  • Ace in the hole: After 20 years of golf, and perhaps more total rounds than any other BTS member (at least according to the course photos from the #GM channel), Cory Olson made his first ace this past week! Congrats, and welcome to the Ace Club!
  • CDA with the CADHeading to our Gamble Sands event this fall? Tack on an extra day or so and join Crawford for a few rounds in Coeur d’Alene. There’s talk of a speedboat ride from CAD’s place to the CDA Resort course… just steer clear of errant tee shots to the island green.
  • A three putter’s lamentOur yearlong 3 Jack Fund is well underway, and one user (who shall remain nameless unless you head to the 3-Jack Fund thread) is making a bid to fund several future scholarships with some seriously sloppy putting. On the plus side – at least that means he’s playing a lot of golf!
  • Fans for life: One more reason to make it a point to attend an LPGA event? You might get a signed ball from Christina Kim!
